Description
The Research Officer I – Regional Tree Seed Centre Coordinator who will assist in coordination of activities in seed source management and seed procurement of Provision of Adequate Tree Portfolios (PATSPO) in the Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples’ regional centre at Hawassa.
Key Responsibilities:
- The PATSPO Regional Seed Centre Coordinator is responsible for coordination of all project inputs to the Regional Seed Centre in Hawassa with the PATSPO / ICRAF Office in Addis Ababa and Head of the Regional Seed Centre in Hawassa;
- Responsible for all infrastructure, vehicles and equipment provided by PATSPO during the period of the project implementation;
- Responsible for liaison and coordination of collaboration with the relevant authorities and projects in the region under supervision of the Research Officer III – Seed Source;
- Assist in preparation and implementation of annual work plans for the Regional Seed Centre with focus on the PATSPO-supported activities and inputs;
- Follow up on use of funds and budgets for PATSPO inputs;
- Monitor and evaluate PATSPO supported activities, inputs (physical and financial) and related assumptions;
- Identify needs for, propose and coordinate procurement of local equipment and materials.
JOB REQUIREMENT
Education
- MSc degree in forestry or related field Broad / specialized knowledge of methods, techniques and processes
Skills:
- Knowledge of project technical subjects required.
- Familiarity with development and relevant techniques in the subject matter
- Ability to plan work and multi-task
- Computer literacy i.e. knowledge in MS Office
- Ability to analyze data and prepare progress records and reports
- Manages staff in their day to day activities
- Updates relevant manuals/protocols
- Flexible on work hours including travel and extended field work
- Follows policies and procedures
- Prepares progress reports for review
- Provides candid and helpful feedback taking into consideration the job grade of the person
- Aware of impact of own work
- Makes decisions within own area of work and requires approval from Supervisor
Experience:
- At least 3 years post-graduate working experience.
- Field experience indispensable.
- Management and administrative experience an additional advantage.

Job Grade: HG13
Monthly Base Salary: Birr 35,492 (Negotiable depending on the salary history of the candidate)
Terms of appointment: This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position, initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding.
