The Ethiopian Society of Sociologists, Social Workers and Anthropologists (ESSSWA) has been implementing a project entitled: “Strengthening Social Services System in Ethiopia (SSSSE)” with a financial and technical support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The overall objective of the project is to improve social services provided to HIV and AIDS infected and affected Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and their families by strengthening social service system and social service workforce and capacity building in four Regional Sates (Amhara, Gambella, Oromia and SNNP) and Addis Ababa City Administration. ESSSWA is currently looking for driver and interested candidates who fulfill the minimum requirements are hereby invited to apply for this post.

Job Description

The Driver will provide safe transport services for ESSSWA staff adhering to ESSSWA’s, Government’s and donor’s policies and country traffic and safety rules. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Adherence to all ESSSWA’s policies and procedures as outlined in ESSSWA’s policies and procedure manuals;
  • Perform duties based on the given schedule and as per the job description provided and as per the request of the supervisor and as per approved travel requests;
  • Maintain vehicle log-sheets in accordance with ESSSWA’s policies/regulations;
  • Check the vehicle conditions after each trip/routinely and report needs and problems to immediate supervisor;
  • Adhere to all safety and communication protocols as advised by ESSSWA and supervisor;
  • Responsible for the safekeeping of all vehicle equipment, tools, first aid kits, spares etc;
  • Check daily the technical conditions of the vehicle (state of the tires, oil, fuel, brakes, equipment, spare parts, etc.) before start driving;
  • Ensure the security of passengers in the vehicle limiting the speed as per ESSSWA’s policy and traffic rules in the country;
  • Inform the supervisor immediately when incident or accident happened and get police report as per the insurance policy;
  • Respect the security rules of the country and ESSSWA and donor related to vehicle movements, specifically at checkpoints and roadblocks and ensure all passengers know and respect the security rules; and check security situation and road conditions before departure;
  • Carry out small liaising task as requested (collecting of documents, dropping of letters, payment of utility bills, government taxes etc);
  • Facilitate vehicles maintenance and insurance process as required;
  • Other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and ESSSWA’s Executive Director

Job Requirements

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Diploma in Auto Mechanics.
  • Valid 3rd Grade or above driving license.
  • Six years or more work experience as a Driver in an International or local NGO with field work experiences.
  • Training certificate in related areas is an advantage.
  • Willingness and ability to perform other related duties as assigned.
