Ethiopian Clean Cooking Alliance Association (ECCA) is a local organization that has been registered in Ethiopia in accordance with the Civil Society Organization and accorded legal personality on July 15, 2019. ECCA is established to provide a professional common platform for various stakeholders working in the clean cooking sector, to deliberate on different issues related to clean cooking sector development, and to lobby/advocate for the cause of clean cooking in Ethiopia.

General Objective of Post:

  • Managing accountancy, the Accountant plays a key role in ensuring effective, efficient and professional operations of the ECCA’s finances and ensures that the highest standards of financial record keeping and reporting to be achieved as per the organization and donors requirements and compliance are met.

Objective 1: Manage the Office Cash and Bank Transactions 

  • Ensuring that financial administration functions well in accordance with ECCAA’s standard procedures
  • Complies with federal and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements
  • Facilitate internal and external auditing and provide all necessary documents for the assigned auditor firm
  • Ensure Cash Hour is respected bearing in mind that flexibility is required for emergency situations approved by the director
  • Check the completeness and compliance of supporting documents before processing the payment
  • Give feedback to responsible department/person upon presentation of incomplete supporting documents on a timely fashion
  • Prepare Cash Payment Voucher/ Cheque Payment Voucher and ensure it is authorized by the authorized body before the payment
  •  Prepare withholding tax receipt for suppliers in case of transactions above the minimum WHT exempted amount
  • Make the Payment Vouchers signed by the payee
  • Prepare payroll, pay a monthly salary, pension, and tax to authorities within the same month of the transaction
  • Release advances requested upon validation and in respect to the advance policy
  • Ensure the advance is recorded on the advance book and the recipient signed while collecting the advance
  • Ensure all advances collected are settled before the end of the week either in cash or complete and appropriate transaction supporting documents
  • Translate transaction supporting documents as needed
  • Post transactions in cash books and bank books based on the source of transaction
  • Ensure standard descriptions are used while posting the transactions
  • Charge transaction on the appropriate budget and budget line
  • Ensure transactions are given appropriate analytical axis codes (account codes, project codes, third party)
  • Perform bank reconciliation every month
  • Perform reconciliation of book balance against cash balance in a safe box on weekly basis
  • Execute weekly cash count with line manager
  • Ensure there is no outstanding advance at the end of the month
  • Close the monthly accountancy latest at the last working day of the month
  • Execute the monthly cash count at the last working day of the month
  • Ensure high quality and timely accountancy
  • Archiving of supporting documents for all transactions of the month
  • Perform cash withdrawal from bank for the replenishment of safe/cash boxes
  • Keep updated information on the bank balance and provide information to the director for treasury forecast purpose and other staffs upon request
  • Financial planning and monitoring

Objective 2: Supplementary Tasks

  • Settlement of monthly bills
  • Keep the inventory and update regularly
  • Ensure good relations with financial partners (bank, tax office, other financial service providers, etc.)
  • Work closely with Administrative Assistant (petty cash handler)
  •  Performs other duties and tasks at the request of the supervisor

Job Requirements

Job requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting;
  • Minimum five years of non-profit managerial financial experience;
  • Must have a proven knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, IPSAS/IFSP, standard spreadsheet, database, and a practical knowledge of financial systems and internal controls.
  •  Accounting software, strong analytical skill, strong planning skill, ability to forecast, computer skill, good oral and written communication skill, decision making skill, problem-solving skill, ability to work to deadlines
