Job Summary:

Primary Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Supports the Field Accountant in ensuring effective and efficient accounting process in the field
  • Collects and prepares required documentation for vendor AP bill packages for submission and review in JAMIS
  •  Performs petty cash custodian duties
  • Contributes to Ethiopia Office weekly report as it relates to finance updates
  • Assist with Monthly financial processes and end of the month/year closing
  • Assist with processing monthly statutory remittances – Income Tax, Pension, WHT and VAT
  • Assist with bank runs and payment deposits, as well as processing proof of payment with vendors
  • Responsible for organizing and maintaining accounting files in the field office and saving electronic document to IRI SharePoint
  • Assist with field office procurement processes in compliance with IRI and funder requirements
  • Maintains an understanding of funder and IRI policies and procedures related to accounting, grant compliance and oversight
  • Assist in ensuring field office staff have a strong understanding of IRI accounting policies and procedures and provide training as needed
  • Helps program team in organizing and conducting program activities
  • Travel within Ethiopia on occasion to support programming, accounting and procurement needs
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree; a relevant degree in accounting, finance or business administration.
  • 1-3 years of relevant professional experience, knowledge of general accounting principles and bookkeeping.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Capable of working under pressure and able to prioritize. Able to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency and knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite and basic accounting software packages.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, with a good command of Excel.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English (other language fluency a plus).
  • Ability to work independently or with a team.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Relevant professional certifications.
  • Experience with JAMIS Prime accounting system.
  • Previous experience supporting international non-governmental organizations preferred; support on US Government contracts and grants strongly preferred.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, including resourcefulness and the ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously and efficiently.
