It takes a value chain development approach, with special focus on improving access to sustainable markets for smallholder farmers and by developing business-to-business relations and improving business development services.SNV Ethiopia with other consortia members including CARE Ethiopia, ORDA, REST and Agri Service Ethiopia is implementing Feed the Future Ethiopia: Livelihoods for Resilience Activity - a 5-year USAID funded project - in in 27 woredasPurpose of the jobThe purpose of the Feed the Future: Livelihoods for Resilience Activity is to reduce food insecurity and increasing resilience for households (HHs) in highland areas of three regions (Amhara, Tigray and SNNPR) in rural Ethiopia. In particular, the purpose of the Livelihoods for Resilience Activity is to enable 97,900 chronically food insecure households to graduate from the PSNP with resilience. SNV is mainly responsible to take the lead role on value chains/market systems development through building the capacity of implementing partners, private sector actors and other stakeholders.Job Description

  • Coordinate and undertake value chain selection process and market systems analysis
  • Coordinate the establishment and functioning of cluster level Multi Stakeholder Platforms (MSPs)
  • Undertake the documentation of MSP meetings’ outcomes and provide support for the implementation of actions plans
  • Facilitate business and market linkages
  • Identify private sector actors and other stakeholders and prepare proposals
  • Provide technical support for selected agro dealers and localized service providers and link them with agriculture offices
  • Contribute in the documentation and dissemination of learnings
  • Track data from agro dealers, localized service providers, selected cooperatives and unions
  • Represent SNV- Livelihoods for Resilience Activity and serves as a liaison
  • Provide technical support for implementing partners, private sector actors and unions and other stakeholders
  • Prepare monthly, quarter, biannual and annual progress reports both for L4R projects
  • Support consultants and local capacity builders
  • Closely work with SNV advisors and experts based in Addis Ababa and undertaking of field visits, trainings, studies, assessments, promotion of improved technologies and practices, market linkage forums and other similar assignments
  • Contributes to internal and external knowledge development
  • Ensures lessons learned are shared and applied
  • Initiates and coordinates the review process and evaluation of advisory services
  • Participates in knowledge development/expertise groups and in internal and external networks
  • Identify and propose technical process improvements
  • Act on improvement areas within the project and the organisation and give feedback.
  • Ensures lessons learned are applied to improve crop value chains across the project woredas.

QualificationsEducation And Experience

  • BA or B.Sc degree in a relevant field of Agri business, agricultural marketing, agricultural economics, agricultural livelihood development, and related fields
  • Minimum Five (5) years of relevant experience working with value chain development gained in private sector, or in a professional consultancy firm, reputable advisory organisation with an international NGO/GO development

Required Skill

  • Broad experience in capacity building, facilitation of multi-stakeholder platforms for business and market linkages and collaborations
  • Experiences in strengthening of farmer-based organizations
  • Pragmatic, good and patient negotiator and solution orientated approach
  • Knowledge of agriculture, food security strategies and programs of Ethiopia
  • Knowledge in agricultural marketing, development, business plan development, private sector involvement and cooperatives
  • Knowledge of rural development and working with PSNP households
  • Knowledge on agricultural input supply system
