BACKGROUND:

The Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Agency (ATA) is a strategy and delivery-oriented government agency created to help accelerate the growth and transformation of the country’s agriculture sector. The ATA envisions that, by 2025, smallholder farmers are commercialized with greater incomes, inclusiveness, resilience and sustainability, contributing to Ethiopia’s achievement of middle-income country status.

The agency focuses on two primary national approaches to catalyze agricultural transformation. First, we support the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Resources (MoA), its affiliate institutions, and other partners to identify and address systemic bottlenecks within an Agricultural Transformation Agenda. Second, we support Regional Governments to accelerate development of high-priority commodity value chains in clearly defined geographic clusters, through the Agricultural Commercialization Clusters (ACC) Initiative.

Our major activities include conducting strategic and analytical studies, providing technical implementation support, coordinating platforms to better integrate partners and projects, and designing and directly leading a number of implementation projects. Our headquarters are in Addis Ababa, and we have regional offices in Amhara, Oromia, SNNP, and Tigray regional offices, allowing us to work closely with a wide range of public, private and development sector partners across the country.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Mechanic provide support to the mechanic working in automotive repair workshop by directly helping with repair and maintenance-related tasks.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Provide continuous support to the mechanic which involves both directly and indirectly.
• Ensure that the mechanic has ready access to the tools and parts they need to finish repair and maintenance activities.
• Perform preventive maintenance tasks which includes but not limited to change a vehicle’s oil, tire rotation flush and replace fluids, change bulbs etc.
• Repair and replace automotive parts which includes but not limited to belts and tubes that have worn out or could soon fail.
• Fuel, grease, lubricate autos.
• Change and repair tires, install and service batteries, spark plugs, light bulbs fan belts and simple mechanical parts.
• Assist the mechanic in the performance of mechanical repairs as required.
• Pick up and deliver auto parts, supplies and vehicles.
• Repair minor vehicle damage, replace broken windows, touch up minor scrap and dents, clean, sew, repair upholstery.
• Repair and overhaul various equipment.
• Perform safety inspection on vehicles and equipment.
• make more advanced repairs or replacements under the supervision of mechanic, such as swapping out engine components or transmissions.
• Provide diagnostic support and submit data & report to the mechanic.
• Maintain customer and vehicle records both hard copies of records and computerized data.
• Ensure customer record is created, fulfilled and updated.
• Ensure all vehicle related information is gathered, properly kept and up to dated
• Assist the mechanic on data entry and reporting.
• Ensure Garage cleanliness and safety.
• Ensure hazardous materials such as oil, gasoline and other fluids are removed.
• Follow established procedure for safe disposal of motor oil, tires and other vehicle fluids.
• Conduct periodic checks of equipment and work areas to ensure they are free of clutter and dangerous materials.
• Assist the mechanic in the performance of mechanical repairs as required.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Diploma/Level 4 in Auto Mechanic, Automotive Technology or other related fields.
• A minimum of 4 years relevant work experience in a similar field with commercial, governmental or humanitarian environment.
• Knowledge of automotive repair and electronics is extremely helpful.
