Job Purpose:

  • To implement an emergency nutrition programmes in a refugee camp as per protocols and international standards. . This includes:
  • Responsible for planning, implementation and monitoring of drug store ,in line with donor requirements, the country protocols and international standards through effective technical support
  • Responsible to manage the drug store of the organization and providing training for nutrition staff and COAs
  •  Establish and maintain cordial working relationships with relevant UN agencies, local Government bodies, NGOs and the community/beneficiaries at project level to enable Concern Ethiopia to achieve its Objectives.

Main Duties & Responsibilities;

  • Assist health and nutrition team and procurement department in Addis to ensure the procurement of essential drugs and medical equipment’s
  • Ensure the quality and standard of incoming medical products and supplies from suppliers, donors and head office.
  • Assist nutrition or health team in compiling pharmaceutical requests and nutritional commodity requests from nutrition center, SC and distribution of drugs supplies and nutrition commodities at nutrition center.
  • Ensuring the distribution of essential drugs, medical supplies and nutritional commodities to the nutrition centers and SC, to avoid stock outs at the center and keeping accurate stock balance and time records on the paper and computer systems.
  • Reviewing expiry date of all stock items and report to Logistics officer, nutrition project manager when stocks are due to expire in six-month time and for taking action on time.
  • Ensure proper storage of medicines, medical supplies and nutrition commodities including maintenance of safe storage, temperature and humidity control as well as cleanliness and tidiness of nutrition centers and main drug store.
  • Recording daily temperature and humidity of drug store.
  • In collaboration with Nutrition Team leaders and Nutrition Manager, ensure good distribution practices and rational use of pharmaceutical items and nutrition commodities in SC, OTP and TSFP
  • Ensure all day-to-day inventory transactions (stock card, bin card, inventory reports and related documents) are updated on a real-time basis with accuracy. Control and document the receipt, handling, storage, pick-up (FEFO), store release and reporting of inventory to the logistics officer and Nutrition project manager.
  • Conduct monthly drug and nutrition commodity (CPDR) inventory and submit monthly report to logistic officer and nutrition project manager & /or DFP.
  • Timely donate overstock to partners; Government and/or NGOs in coordination with Nutrition Manager and Logistics Manager.
  • Timely anticipate stock rupture based on available stock, planned incoming stock and consumption, and report to Nutrition Manager and Logistics Manager.
  • Facilitate proper disposal of expired medicines according to CONCERN WORLD WIDE and MoH protocol.
  • Liaise with partners; government, NGO and UN to avoid overstock and/or stock rupture.
  • Support staff development through coaching and mentoring to enhance the capacity of project and MoH staff
  • Ensure good collaboration and participation of UN agencies, INGOs and other relevant local agencies
  • Conduct frequent joint supervision visits to BSFP, TSFP, OTP and SC sites with UN agencies, Woreda health office and other government sectors as needed
  • Participate in nutrition and coverage surveys and other assessments as needed
  • Keep and maintain project documents and generate reports according to the organization’s and the UN agencies reporting templates
  • Keep the Program Manager informed any problems or developments through regular written reports, and verbal communication in a timely manner.
  • Contribute in the planning of Concern Worldwide’s emergency response based on the experiences gained from other agencies.
  • Liaise with Logistics Officer regarding transport requirements and government directives.
  • Establish and maintain cordial working relationships with relevant local Government bodies, NGOs and the community/beneficiaries at project level to enable Concern Ethiopia to achieve its Objectives.
  •  Perform other duties assigned by Project Manager/team leader.

Job Requirements

Person Specification

Essential:

Education, Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • BSc Degree in Pharmacy with minimum of 2 years or Diploma in Pharmacy with minimum  four  years relevant experience
  • Profound experience in area of dispensary and drug store management
  • Computer literate
  • NGO experience in emergency projects is an advantage
  • Good communication and report writing skills
  • Good negotiation skill with government and other agencies

Required:

  • ToT on Integrated Pharmaceuticals Logistics System (IPLS)
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written English.
  • Good interpersonal skills and team player with sensitivity to cultural diversity
  • Ability to work under pressure
  •  Local language is preferable

  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the organization developing effective working relationships to deliver outstanding results for target beneficiaries.
