Description

The Employee will undertake work in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for Millennium DPI Partners (Millennium DPI) in support of the Feteh (Justice) Activity pursuant to Millennium DPI’s contract with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Under the direct supervision of the Civil Society and Program Support Director and jointly reporting to the Chief of Party (COP) and Civil Society and Program Support Director, the Employee shall assume the following specific responsibilities for the length of his/her employment with Millennium DPI:

 

  • Liaise with civil society organizations and relevant local stakeholders in promoting full civil society engagement in the legal and judicial reform agenda;
  • Identify areas for support and intervention within the areas of civil society;
  • Maintain an inventory of civil society partners active in the justice sector; determine needs relating to judicial accountability, reform, and access to justice;
  • Explore and, where feasible, develop innovative approaches to support continuous improvement of civil society organizations, in particular to establish formal and lasting linkages between civil society and the implementation of the legal and judicial reforms;
  • Follow up the participation of civil society organizations and the media to work as a bridge between government and the public in the justice sector reform;
  • Work to develop sustainable relationships between civil society organizations and government institutions to enhance the rule of law and democratic processes;
  • Assist with the selection of local organization(s) for all Feteh civil society activities, and work closely with the local organization(s) selected to implement Portfolio Two of grants and/or sub-contracts, as assigned by the Civil Society and Program Support Director, to ensure excellent outcomes and achievement of relevant aspects;
  • Work with team members, to develop and carry out customized training and mentoring for civil society organizations;
  • Collaborate with all other Feteh components to ensure success in achieving work plan and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) plan objectives;
  • Assist with conceiving and drafting each Feteh annual work plan to be submitted to USAID;
  • Participate in drafting and providing input for quarterly and annual reports on all related civil society activities, ensuring appropriate inputs from other staff and/or consultants;
  • Contribute to the Activity’s success stories and provide input for success stories, including photographs when possible; and
  • Other duties as assigned by the COP, the Civil Society and Program Support Director or his/her designee.

Job Requirements

  • University degree in law, social sciences, or related field
  • Years of Experience/ Experience Required: At least 5 years of progressive work experience in international development, with at least 3 years of experience in civil society involvement and capacity building
  • Language Skills: Fluency in spoken and written English and Amharic
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office
  • Other Skills:
    • Well organized, team player
    • Ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders from different levels and backgrounds
    • Ability to independently write high-quality reports for a variety of target groups and audiences
