Scope:

Under the direct supervision of Camp and Program Manager, the CWI Prevention Officer will support implementation of the prevention activities in the four Shire camps. The Officer will train and supervise refugee community workers and community activist to respond GBV issues in the camp. Supervise and coordinates prevention activities, establish smooth with collaboration with protection, health, legal, and psychosocial partners to reduce the incidence of violence against women and girls.

Responsibilities:

  • Directly support CWI prevention activities implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the program in Shimelba, My’Ayni, Adi Harush and Hitsats refugee camps in the Eritrean refugee Camp to ensure that CWI prevention program is implemented according to project work plan and spending plan and that the project objectives and committed-indicators are met.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all relevant service provider including government and other agencies, other implementing partners, community leaders, organizations and informal structures, and represents CWI program in all service providers meetings.
  • Facilitate trainings and workshops on gender and GBV related issues for health care providers, police, CWI Staff, ARRA protection, education providers, UNHCR, local authorities, women’s groups, refugee community leaders, religious leaders, youth groups, NGO workers and any other identified groups in all the Shire four camps.
  • Develop a quarterly work plan, monthly work plan and monitoring plan in advance and provide to incentive community workers and/or community volunteers in each camp for awareness raising activities; provide training as need arises and conduct monitoring site visit on a quarterly basis including quarterly meeting.
  • Identify incentive staff focal point and conduct regular communication check in, specific team leader tasks and share the communication/action plan with the Response Officer.
  • Assist in prevention related IEC and BCC materials development, in collaboration with GBV team, ensuring messages are appropriate for the community and conduct pre-testing before dissemination.
  • Develop Quarterly outreach in advance, based on case trends analysis according to the GBVIMS. Develop strategies to reach diverse segment of clients with support of the Response Officers for each camp.
  • Ensure the success of SASA! Implementation, including update training materials, adaptation of SASA!, ensuring SASA! Monitoring and evaluation tools are used and follow-up the implementing four SASA! Strategies, and ensuring appropriate GBV messages are incorporated to SASA! Approach.
  • Assist in and /capacity building to community worker to be able to support GBV safety audit activity as needed.
  • Identify prevention financial and logistical needs, raise procurement request of prevention activity on the quarterly basis and ensure adherence to all IRC financial and logistic policies.
  • Compile prevention monthly report and submit to CWI Program Manager, by the 28th of every month.
  • Support Response Officer Participation in coordination meeting with UNHCR, ARRA, police, legal justice, community leaders.
  • Collect prevention qualitative and quantitative data, analyze, monitor and evaluate the result based prevention activities and share project data and information for problem analysis, planning and evaluation with the CWI Manager.
  • Promote the participation of women, adolescent girls and girl children in all matters affecting their life through the establishment of different clubs in school and through the organization of different outreach programs
  • Any other duties and responsibilities that can be given by immediate and technical supervisors

Requirements

  • 2/3 years for Masters/ First degree work experience respectively in Social Work, Sociology, Public Health, Women’s Studies, or other Social science related field.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in GBV (Gender Based Violence), and Gender related humanitarian and development programming. Work and field experience is an added value.
  • Clear understanding of gender, power abuse, and issues surrounding violence against women and girls.
  • Detailed understanding of women and children wellbeing and safety theory and practice.
  • Able to adhere to GBV and protection principle at all times.
  • NGO experience is helpful.
  • Experience in participatory techniques and community mobilization include facilitate the training.
  • Ability to lead, train, supervise, facilitate and motivate other CWI field workers in their respective tasks in a professional, supportive and encouraging manner.
  • Positive and professional attribute, able to maintain composure and prioritize work, work over-time when needed and able to coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • English, and Tigrigna proficiency is required.
  • Possess interest and dedication to human rights and gender equality.
  • Must be computer literate, including Microsoft word, excel, outlook and power-point
