This job is a consultancy for a period of three months with possibility for extension. This is part of a research project that aims, through testimonies and accurate data-gathering and analysis, to showcase the alarming necessity to amend Lebanese Law 205 to include migrant domestic workers (MDWs), in hopes of heralding vital legal protection of MDWs working in Lebanon. The research will therefore produce the necessary evidence to inform a research paper, along with other awareness materials, to use in high-level advocacy with Lawmakers and to garner support from allied stakeholders.

Key tasks:

• Translate and transcribe audio interviews from Amharic to English;
• Translate questionnaire responses from Amharic to English.
• Translate and transcribe audio interviews from English to Amharic;
• Transcribe audio interviews from English to English;
• Translate document English to Amharic

Required skills and qualifications include:

• Ability to work with impartiality, integrity, and discretion
• Fluently bilingual in Amharic and English (oral and written)
• Bachelor’s degree in translation from Amharic to English
• At least one year’s experience translating in a translation firm or in a translation department, from Amharic to English
• Excellent sense of organization, very strong time management skills, ability to meet deadlines and to work under pressure
• Ability to work in a team
• Proficiency in MS Office skills
