Description

Digital Green is launching a two years project “Advancing Conservation, Agriculture and Livelihoods on Oromia” financed by The David and Lucile Packard Foundation. Digital Green as lead organization is partnering with the Environment and Coffee Forest Forum (ECFF), to deliver the project objectives together with the local government offices. The Field coordinator, will generally help to coordinate field level interventions being close to woredas and villages where the project is designed for implementations with respect to integrating agriculture with Natural Resource Management (NRM) and livelihoods of the targeted farmers in Gera and Shabe Sombo woredas of Jimma zone. He/she will report to the Project Coordinator placed at Jimma Town, helping to coordinate the implementation of the project in the woredas to fully achieve project target and objectives.

The successful candidate will be a hands-on, directly working with local partners, agricultural extension staff and farmers in particular, and providing guidance as well as laying strong foundations to smoothly run the poject as per the agreed targets and objectives. It includes training/capacity building for local intermediaries, quality assurance for video production, data management, dissemination, and adoption.

This position will require project implementation skills in terms of integrating agriculture and NRM with livelihoods with the aim of reducing deforestation, forest degradation and biodiversity loss, while improving livelihoods of the forest-dependent smallholder farmers, including women and young people, in the Belete Gera forest landscape.

Key Responsibilities

Identify priority topics in each woreda in collaboration with Project Coordinator and extension workers at Woreda and kebele levels.
Facilitate video production, video facilitation, and data entry training in collaboration with DAs in each village; and coordinate and facilitate refresher trainings as needed.
Supervise field level implementations and adoptions in collaboration with DAs
Take direction from the Project Coordinator to execute on-ground activities with select farmers focused on agriculture, livelihoods, enterprise development, gender and capacity building components of the project.
He/she is also expected to coordinate efforts with local government actors and other stakeholders; and lead development and delivery of social and behavior change communication (SBCC) messages using our community video approach and other ICTs as appropriate.
Help DAs on data collections and aggregations.
Facilitate project implementation by leveraging an entrepreneurial lens and by collaborating with DAs and making sure that field level implementation are as per the designed target and objectives
Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experiences

BSc or MSc degree in NRM, Rural Development, Agriculture, Livelihoods or related fields, etc.;
Minimum 2 years of experience in project implementation of NRM and related agronomic activities
Experience in working with various ICT for Agriculture platforms focusing on improving the well-being of smallholder farmers is of an advantage;
Experience working with NGOs as well as private-sector agencies is a plus.
Skills and Competencies

Knowledge of climate-smart agriculture, agronomy, value chains, extension, and livelihoods linkages’ challenges and opportunities;
Understanding of country-specific agriculture extension structure;
Facilitations skills for project implementation with partners, and stakeholders;
Passion and dedication to introduce innovations that will ultimately result in increased income across smallholder farmers;
Strong willingness to deliver quality results to achieve organization’s ultimate aims;
Ability to work well under pressure and oftentimes under tight deadlines;
Ability to work within teams and with potential partners
Ability to travel extensively throughout the project implementation target areas.
Good written and spoke English
Proficient in the local language, Afaan Oromo
