 Position: Finance Manager

Place of Work: Head Office

       About the Organization:

VisionFund Micro Finance Institution (S.C) is an Institution established according to proclamation No. 40/96 to provide financial services to the productive poor in the rural and urban areas of Ethiopia. VisionFund is currently operating in four of the Regional States of the country.

VisionFund MFI is currently looking for candidates for the position of Finance Manager. The successful candidates will have skills and experience that meet the following requirements:

  Major Responsibilities:

Planning

  • Plans the daily work load of the finance department
  • Establishes the yearly plan and budget for the finance department and facilitate consolidation company annual plan and budget

Financial Management and supervision

  • Undertake financial analysis, branch profitability and advise CFO on overall financial management
  • Supervision and guidance to Senior Area Financial Accountants on managerial and technical level
  • Supervision of the Budget & Treasury Manger on managerial and technical level
  • Supervision of the area branch Account & Control Officers on a technical level
  • Provides technical advice on accounting and finance related topics raised in the institution.

Supervision, development and education

  • Undertake visit to branches for accounting staff evaluation on the job.
  • Review staff appraisals of the finance department and take remediate action if required
  • Set the targets and deliverables for the finance department in the yearly planning and review

Compliance

  • Ensure MFI polices and standard processes, inclusive of policies, procedures, and controls, and statutory and regulatory requirements are complied with across the institution based on International Financial Reporting Standards
  • Assist management in fraud investigation (forensic accounting if not covered by Risk

Reporting

  • Controls and verifies the daily reconciliation, B/S, P/L, Trail Balance and other deliverables by Accounts Division
  • Control and verify liquidity management  and cash-flows prepared by the finance Budget and Treasury Division
  • Controls the Day End and Month End tasks and reporting for its completeness and correctness for the CFO to sign off
  • Develop more efficient & user friendly reporting templates on a regular basis and track financial information/reports on a timely fashion
  • Prepares the agenda, minutes and documents for the ALCO meetings at executive managerial level and quarterly board level.  Acts as minute taker on both ALCO meetings.
  • Assists with the External Auditors in establishing statutory accounts

Job Requirements

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

A) Education/Training

  • BA in Accounting
  • International recognized accounting certification is desirable

B) Experience:

  • 10 years accounting related experience of which at least five years in Financial Institutions

C) Technical and other skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting and financial reporting in Financial Services (Banking or MFI)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of economic methods and statistical techniques
  • Comprehensive knowledge of regression analysis and time series methodologies
  • Comprehensive knowledge of data collection and evaluation techniques
  • Ability to develop forecasts
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to collect, analyze and interpret data
  • Ability to develop risk management plans and tools
  • Supervisory skill
  • Good presentation and analytical skill
  • Skilled in banking software and accounting tools
