Who we are
SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.
Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

We are looking for Flood Emergency Officer who will be responsible for leading and coordinating flood response project at Kelafo and Mustahil districts level by ensuring, local government and others stakeholders’ collaboration at all level.

Your role....
As Flood Emergency officer you will be in charge of the following:
- Representing the organization’s flood response program at Kelafo and Mustahil districts level
- Ensuring a positive collaboration and working relationship with pertinent government offices and a good public image of the organization.
- Actively participating and coordinating in zonal and kelafo flood emerge clusters/coordination meeting with NGOs, UN agencies and government offices and regional level
- Planning and implementing project activities, closely monitoring, evaluating, and reporting their development and flag potential issues on time.
- Preparing financial and procurement requests on time and submitting to Humanitarian Response Project Coordinator
- Compiling and submitting monthly, quarterly and yearly project progress report to concerned stake holders
- Participating on Dyer and Gu multi-agency seasonal assessments
- Participating in any flood early warning system and/or platform around the project area
- Ensuring adherence to SOS CVE'S policies such as the Code of Conduct, Child Safeguarding Standards and others as well as the minimum standards of humanitarian relief (ICRC Code of Conduct, Sphere, CHS).
- Performing any additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

The must haves:
BA Degree in Disaster Risk Management, Development Studies or any other related field.
Minimum 2 years direct experience working in humanitarian aid and/or development work in multi-cluster INGOs in Somali region
Experience and knowledge of emergency project management including emergency needs assessment, project design, development and implementation
Experience and knowledge of disaster risk reduction and recovery
Good understanding of humanitarian issues and sympathy with the aims and objectives of the organization; commitment to humanitarian principles and the Red Cross and INGO’s code of conduct
Excellent organizational and problem solving skills
Ability to work under stressful situation
Establishing strong and effective working relationships with colleagues from different backgrounds, cultures and experience
Local knowledge in terms of its culture, economic and social trends is compulsory
Strong coordination and communication skill, with good written and spoken English and Somali.
Basic Computer Proficiency
Ability to work under harsh working environment and frequently travel to the field up to 70% of working time
Experience in Compiling and producing good quality monthly, quarterly and yearly project progress report
