    The Private Sector Fundraising (PSFR) section of UNICEF works with National Committees and UNICEF country offices to maximize income and drive income growth. There are five teams within the PSFR section: the purpose of the Global Philanthropy team is to grow income from major donors, faith and membership-based organizations.

    The Major Donor section of the Global Philanthropy team provides strategy development and capacity building support for National Committees and Country Offices, including working with them to conduct prospect research, provide engagement and cultivation opportunities for global partners, share best practices, provide training, and support on prospect cultivation and management. In addition to supporting national markets in their local fundraising, some members of the team also directly cultivate select high-level prospective donors (Global New Business).

    Purpose of the Job:

    The incumbent for this post will be responsible for managing the global Major Donor team. In particular, this post will provide managerial oversight for UNICEF’s global Major Gifts programme as well as guidance and technical support to the Global Philanthropy team, National Committees and country offices that prioritize the major donor fundraising channel, as well as to Regional Offices and UNICEF Headquarters more broadly.

    Main Tasks:

    The post holder will be an essential leader of a small team and thus will be called upon to manage a number of initiatives. The below is the current primary focus of the role that can be foreseen:

    Intelligence and Content, including but not limited to:

    • Serving as a thought leader on global trends and developments in Philanthropy
    • Overseeing the Major Gift Leadership Academy for major gift officers
    • Overseeing a network of suppliers who can provide wealth screenings, feasibility studies, and other relevant data and analysis
    • Ensuring the UNICEF major gifts community has access to appropriate programme and proposal content.
    • Directing the development of the peer-to-peer fundraising strategy for UNICEF’s key global donors, including mapping their network of connections.

    Engagement, including but not limited to:

    • Overseeing UNICEF’s International Council of $1million+ donors, including delivering a world-class Annual Meeting
    • Overseeing one-on-one coaching to select Major Gift Officers (MGOs) from priority markets to ensure the engagement of prospects in their portfolio and/or support in developing their strategy
    • Managing UNICEF’s engagement with prospects and donors at key moments including UNGA, Davos, group field visits, etc.
    • Engaging with UNICEF and UN senior leaders to ensure senior leadership to ensure engagement for donors at the highest level.
    • Managing support to local offices to aid in the roll out of national engagement events for donors.
    • Overseeing development of new global engagement offerings for donors

    Global New Business, including but not limited to:

    • Monitoring and evaluating direct donor engagement by the Global Philanthropy team and progress meeting KPIs.
    • Overseeing development of UNICEF’s Global New Business team’s pipeline of new $1million+ donors.
    • Managing collaboration with local markets on international prospects.
    • Leading the growth of UNICEF’s International Council to include new members.

    Cross-Cuttingincluding but not limited to:

    • Accountability for tracking and analyzing global income and KPIs.
    • Leading on the creation of annual strategic plans for top markets (including Joint Strategic Planning process).
    • Managing global philanthropy investment funding.
    • Developing and delivering content for major donor webinars, workshops and/or the UNICEF global Skill Share.
    • Representing Global Philanthropy team at external and internal events.
    • Driving the development of a stronger culture of philanthropy within PFP and across UNICEF more globally.

    Deliverables:

    will include but not be limited to the following:

    • Deliver a World Class International Council meeting in New York in November.
    • Deliver second class of the UNICEF Major Gift Leadership Academy
    • Deliver 2020 Virtual Skill Share content
    • Grow UNICEF’s network of major gift officers by 15 across the span of the year
    • Bring in 5 new members to the International Council.
    • Other deliverables upon request

    Estimated Duration of the contract:

    To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

    Education:

    • Advanced University Degree in a discipline relevant to one of the following areas: Fundraising/Philanthropy, Communication, Marketing, International Relations, International Development, Business, Social Sciences, or a related area.
    • *A first level university degree in a relevant area combined with 10 years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in philanthropy and fundraising, including at least 5 years of experience in major gift fundraising.
    • Experience managing a team.
    • Experience in cultivating and securing high-value gifts.
    • Familiarity with global fundraising landscape.
    • Experience developing fundraising strategies.
    • Practiced communicator with demonstrated ability to condense information and capture and communicate it in a well-structured way.
    • Track record of working independently and meeting tight deadlines.
    • Knowledge of the UN system, and familiarity with UNICEF programme activities are desirable.

    Language Requirements:

    • Fluency and excellent writing and editing skills in English is required.
