Virtual Support Services Volunteer

Health Equipment Loan Program (HELP)

The Canadian Red Cross Society, a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is seeking volunteer Virtual Support Services facilitator reporting to the Provincial Coordinator, Virtual Support Team. Facilitators are required in Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Calgary, Red Deer, Edmonton, Grande Prairie and Fort McMurray.

The Support Services Volunteer, through phone-based communications to the HELP program clients, facilitates equipment return calls while additionally providing safety and wellbeing checks to seniors age 65+ throughout the province of Alberta via the 7 satellite locations noted.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitating Equipment Return calls
  • Through the operation of a call-center structure, will ensure equipment return/overdue calls are provided in a timely manner. Clients are provided with a solution-based communication resulting in more health equipment being returned for ongoing program repurposing
  • Ensures database integrity is maintained for all appointment bookings and equipment return documentation as required
  • Facilitating Safety and Wellbeing calls to Seniors age 65+
  • Completes wellness phone calls to older adults. Ensuring calls remain professional and confidential in the provision of information and referrals relating to the needs identified by clients
  • Ensures the integrity of data collection and recording of all call/ client trackers and statistical information
  • Provides community-based research and updates Community Resources manuals ensuring current and appropriate referrals are resourced that contribute to the ongoing safety and wellbeing of HELP clients
  • Observes and promotes the mission of the Canadian Red Cross Society, and the goals and principles of the International Red Cross and red Crescent t Movement
  • Contributes to a Healthy and Safe working environment
    • Represents the Society in a professional manner by providing efficient management of all telephone calls to clients
    • Performs other duties as may be required

 

Qualifications

    • Strong English based communication skills, second language in an asset
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to deal with internal and external program stakeholders
    • Database management experience
    • Excellent telephone manner with contact center or multi-line phone system skills required
    • Demonstrated understanding and compassion of the aging population, including community resource knowledge and resourcing
    • Experience working with a diverse population an asset
    • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
    • Strong organization skills

This position requires a satisfactory vulnerable sector and Canadian criminal record check and Standard First Aid.

Time Commitment

    • Commit for a minimum of six months
    • 1 or more 3hr shifts per week during the regular office hours from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM

 

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office environment. This environment is aligned to National and Provincial Health Standards as required during COVID 19. PPE, social distancing and regular hand hygiene practices are required.

Extended evening and week hours may be required during times of emergency response.
