The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is an operational arm of the United Nations, supporting the successful implementation of its partners' peacebuilding, humanitarian, and development projects around the world. Mandated as a central resource of the United Nations, UNOPS provides sustainable project management, procurement, and infrastructure services to various governments, donors, and United Nations organizations. With over 6,000 personnel spread across 80 countries, UNOPS offers its partners the logistical, technical, and management knowledge they need, where they need it. By implementing around 1,000 projects for our partners at any given time, UNOPS makes significant contributions to results on the ground, often in the most challenging environments.

Established in 2009, UNOPS Ethiopia Office has been providing services to various partners, including the government of Ethiopia, UN agencies such as WHO, UNHCR and WFP, and other international organizations. Since 2014, the UNOPS Ethiopia Multi-country Office (ETMCO) runs and coordinates the UNOPS activities in Ethiopia, as well as Sudan and Djibouti. The UNOPS ETMCO team is composed of approximately 100 national and international women and men, and offers a broad range of services such as infrastructure, procurement, project management, financial and human resources management.

The internship is a learning and working opportunity that targets fresh graduates. The intern will assist the Human Resources Unit and support the Ethiopia Multi-Country Office (ETMCO). The intern will be exposed to practical learning and working experiences that foster development of his /her path. The Intern will work full time and follow the same working hours as UNOPS employees.

Functional Responsibilities

Under the close supervision of the HR Specialist, the intern will be expected to engage in the support of HR tasks and to selectively drive particular work items on their own as part of their on-the-job learning program.

His/her responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Support the recruitment outreach efforts for all active recruitments as per the outreach plan.
  • Assist in checking and proofreading ToRs on proper grammar and format use in advertisements before they are posted
  • .Assist in reference checking process of candidates.
  • Follow up and report on the completion of mandatory courses.
  • Assist in the compiling of different HR reports as appropriate.
  • Follow up on timely confirmation of approvals for contract extensions.
  • Logistical assistance in planning, organizing and preparation of interviews, trainings and other relevant events.
  • Support the identification and documentation of best practices and lessons learnt, including coordination and organization wide implementation of knowledge sharing and documentation methodologies.
  • Assist in HR filing as applicable.
  • Assist in organizing induction session for new hires.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the training database.
  • Other related tasks as deemed relevant.

    Education/Experience/Language requirements
    Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree is required, preferably in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or related areas.
    Experience:
  • Applicants are not required to have professional work experience.

Applicants should have graduated from the above-stated fields within three (3) years prior to the date of the application of the internship. Knowledge of usage of Google suite applications is an added advantage.

Language:

Fluency in written and oral English is required.
