UN Women Ethiopia Country Office (ECO) is thus dedicated to advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment. This is done through national programming that (1) supports women’s leadership and participation to benefit equally from governance systems, (2) encourages gender responsive governance and budgeting, (3) women and girls living a life free from violence, (4) contributes to the empowerment including economic autonomy, and (5) building sustainable peace and resilience, and benefit equally from the prevention of natural disasters and conflicts and humanitarian action. Furthermore, UN Women ECO works closely with national governments and local authorities, UN Agencies and non-governmental organizations in designing laws, policies, programmes and provision of services in addition to ensuring that human rights and gender equality standards are effectively implemented. As such, the objective of UN Women Ethiopia Country Office (ECO) is to make certain that women and girls are fully able to benefit from their fundamental human rights and access resources and services.

Reflective of its strategic priorities, UN Women aims to disseminate high quality and well-developed knowledge products generated under its various thematic areas. This is expected to enable it to effectively engage with stakeholders and establish strong partnership with its donors. To ensure the production of quality reports/content in a timely manner, UN Women ECO is thus seeking to recruit an editor with expertise in editing reports, development of policy briefs and documents for publication to donors as well as public audiences and women’s human rights is needed. The consultant will support UN Women ECO under a retainer contract based on demand.

Duties And Responsibilities

OBJECTIVE OF THE CONSULTANCY

The main objective of this consultancy is to edit, review and ensure content/materials are comprehensive, concise and results based oriented.

SCOPE OF THE WORK

Under The Direct Supervision And Overall Guidance Of The Deputy Country Representative, With Support From Monitoring And Evaluation Specialist And In Close Coordination With Programme Specialist (Ending Violence Against Women And Girls (VAWG), And Women In Leadership And Governance (WILG), The Consultant Will

  • Review, understand and internalize the materials/content;
  • Check correctness of language- grammatically correct language, spellings of materials (i.e. content, reports, handouts, etc…);
  • Develop policy brief based on contents produced by UN Women;
  • Check completeness of documents, including complete information included in all narrative sections and annexes are in place;
  • Ensure consistency with previous reports submitted under the project in question if submitted to donor. ECO will provide the previous reports to the consultant. The consultant is expected to request the office for the previous reports;
  • Ensure a consistent style and format throughout the document and elimination of repetition and inconsistencies;
  • Appropriate positioning and numbering of boxes, figures and tables;
  • Consistent font (s) – as relevant to headings and text;
  • Appropriate use of italicized and bolded words;
  • Ensure all footnotes, sources, references are complete and consistent;
  • Thorough review of annexes (people consulted, bibliography, etc) to highlight incomplete areas along with consistency in presentation as per UN Women publication guidelines;
  • Review Table of Contents and Acronym List;
  • It is expected the consultant will be proactive and work closely with ECO identified staff on the report.
  • Prepare specific report-related feedback to relevant UN Women ECO for improvements of the quality of reports

EXPECTED OUTPUTS AND DELIVERABLES

Under The Overall Guidance Of The Deputy Country Representative With Support From Monitoring And Evaluation Specialist And Programme Managers (EVAWG And WILG) The Consultant Is Expected To

  • Edited and reviewed content such as: (reports, donor reports, other documents) including communication materials that have high quality and policy briefs developed based on knowledge products., result based standard and format established by UN Women.

Required Skills And Experience

Education

  • University Master’s degree related to Social Sciences including Gender Studies, Law, Women’s Rights, Public Administration, International Relations, Political Sciences, Development Studies or related field.

Expierence

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive relevant professional work experience on gender, women’s rights, project management (project implementation), monitoring and evaluation, and resource mobilization;
  • Strong background and understanding of reporting;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the social, cultural and political context of Ethiopia and women’s rights situation and work in the country will be an asset.
  • Substantive knowledge of gender and development and ending violence against women and girls.
  • Excellent analytical, management and coordination skills;
  • Good interpersonal skills and capacity to liaise with parties concerned;
  • Strong facilitation, writing and presentation skills;

Language

  • Fluent in and excellent knowledge of written and oral communication in English.
