GOAL is a non-for profit organization that has been working in Ethiopia for over 30 years, towards ensuring the poorest and most vulnerable in our world and those affected by humanitarian crises have access to the fundamental rights of life, including but not limited to adequate shelter, food and livelihoods, water and sanitation, nutrition, healthcare and education. GOAL implements a range of multi-sectoral development, resilience, recovery and humanitarian responses programmes by being sensitive to cross-cutting issues including gender, accountably, child protection, HIV/AIDS. Currently, we work with pastoralist, agro-pastoral, pastoral dropouts, rural small holder farmers, rural/urban youth and street children to respond to humanitarian crises and build resilience in Ethiopia working closely with local communities, local government, donors and other key actors. GOAL E Humanitarian Response is centered on nutrition, WASH, livelihoods, multipurpose cash, NFIs and protection interventions in country wide while the recovery and development focus on livelihoods, economic opportunities, health, health and nutrition system strengthening and WASH with solid emphasis on integrated programming and community-based approach in Oromiya regional state. The Street Children programme is implemented with local partners in Addis Ababa and Hawassa.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The MCVO will work with the Regional Media and Communication Officer in providing skills and capacity in the multi-media (film, audio & print) documentation of GE and GE Partner Projects. The MCVO will assist the Regional Media and Communication Officer in the entire field of producing high quality materials that captures the work that GOAL implements. The MCVO will also ensure that all GOAL Ethiopia visibility actions confirm to standard and agreed design and quality criteria that are in line with GOAL International and donor requirements. Finally, the MCVO will be assisting Regional Media and Communication Officer in coordination and organization of country level public relations requirement.

 

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY/DUTIES

  • Assist the Regional Media and Communication Officer and liaise with GE Compliance Officer and Grant Managers visibility requirements for all grants are met and documentation is correctly field.
  • Collaborate with Programme staff, Program Team members to design and implement small scale level visibility materials (banners, T-shirts and signboards.
    • Work with programmes and procurement staff on the design and procurement of all GE visibility materials to ensure uniformity and quality to a very high standard that meets the requirements of GOAL International and donors.
  • Assist the Programme Unit in documentation and dissemination of programme related documents.
  • Actively seek opportunities for upgrading the programme team data documentation using applicable software.
  • Assist in developing a visibility plan that will feed into a procurement plan in collaboration with the budget holders for grants in line with donor requirement
  • Assist on partner communications management and attend partner meetings and events when requested by the RMCO
  • Carry out additional tasks assigned by his/her line manager and SMT

Mainstreaming Issues:

  • Work with the focal persons to make sure that gender, Child Protection and HIV/AIDS are included in all aspects of the MDVO output, where necessary.
  • Be a role model and provide feedback to encourage others in supporting equity and diversity principals, and the accommodation of other differences in the workplace; Model the flexibility required for working in a diverse environment.
  • Keep him/ her updated on the countries situation with regarding trends in these mainstreaming issues.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Journalism, English, Communications, Public Relations, International relations or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years for Degree or 4 years for Diploma in communication and digital media in publishing or media outlet.
  • Computer skills and familiar with Adobe graphics design packages, photography and video productions.
  • Strong Media relations background and experience working on public relations
  • Strong skills working in diverse teams and across many types of organizations
  • Team-oriented; problem solver; relationship-builder; and strong inter-personal skills;
  • Qualification in the use of video, editing, documentary production etc.
  • Good communication and English writing skills - experience in writing story, blogs, content for organization.
