Inter aide France Agriculture Program is looking for qualified personnel for its project in SNNPR

The holder of the position will lead, organize and coordinate the project planting material propagation and distribution activities which will be carried out at community multiplication sites, at group and family nurseries

Detailed responsibilities:

Create awareness and mobilize all concerned actors to engage and contribute on multiplication of planting materials at CMS  

• With operational team present the objective, role and responsibilities of each concerned actors on the setting up and management of communal multiplication sites (CMS)
• Present the progress and challenges of joint multiplication action to the woreda and zonal watershed steering committee
• Ensure the signing of MOU by all concerned actors about the management and planting material production at CMS as per the plan

Coordinate and lead the joint planning actions with all concerned stakeholders

•  Coordinate with the operational project team and with ministry of agriculture woreda team to determine planting material multiplication need at community multiplication sites, group nurseries and individual backyard nurseries
• Calculate and establish purchase request according to the multiplication needs,
• Organize  and coordinate procurement of planting materials  in collaboration with the logistic team
• Define operational calendar for multiplication of each plant species and fix the species and quantity to be produced at each specific sites 
• Plan the work of all stakeholders related to the production and the management of planting material (Development Agent, operational team and Multiplication technicians)

Support and advise the establishment,  management  of backyard nurseries

• Organize the global needs by crop species according to the needs for the farms
• Give operational advice and guidance on backyard nursery management
• Centralized the data of production and distribution by crop species

Organize technical training and develop nursery management field guide

• Technical training on nursery management, special propagation technic related with different plant species, fruit tree grafting techniques to the nursery technicians, project  operational field team as well as for MoA field team.
• Documentation and producing technical field guide related with basic plant species propagation techniques

Centralized planting material distribution data and coordinate survival rate count by species

• In collaboration with the project operational team and MoA field team organize distribution data collection and analyses and report annual result
• Guide sample base survival count related to transplanted and distributed planting material share the result through your report

Multiplication team Management : in collaboration with zonal operational responsible directly manage the team of multiplication

• Validate their work schedule
• Support and train them
• Conduct yearly evaluation
• Support in recruitment, warnings and possible dismissal

Based on the actual expenses data, define the annual budget for each CMS

• Ensure to  develop a system to collect all input allocated in CMS
• Ensure to develop a system to collect all output data of CMS and analyze data for future reference

Respect IA internal Rules

• As IAF team member, he/she represents the organisation and as such should have a positive and decent behaviour toward all actors he/she might encounter during his/her duties (all IA staff, Communities, Suppliers, Officials…) and obliged to respect and abide with internal rules of the organization.
• Fulfil all other tasks as necessary when given by his/her superior even if not mentioned in the present job description. The Multiplication Manager is expected to take his/her responsibilities fully, and in case of doubt, ask his/her superior.

Type of employment:

• On contract base (one year with possible extension)

Based in

• Shinshisho (Kembata) but with frequent stays in IAF sites (Hadiya, Kambata & Wolayta)

• Master in a relevant field (> 3 years relevant experience required) Or
• BSC / BA in relevant field (> 7 years relevant experience required)
•  Relevant fields are: Agronomy, Plant science, Natural resource management…

Skills & interest:

• Strong Knowledge and skill on different plant species propagation and nursery management
• Long experience working with rural community, development agents and other actors on agriculture sector
• Strong social inclination (knowledge of community-based approach, formation to community-based organization…)
• Experience on managing and leading team
• Ability to plan, organize implementation, monitor, evaluate and reporting
• Experience organizing in his/her work, in document classification, in data collection and analysis
• Ability to work autonomously
• Strong skills in computer application software (Excel, Word…)

Language:

•  Fluent in spoken and written English, Amharic. Local Language would be a plus

Requirement:

• Motor bike driving license a plus
