Our approach: The Lowland Soil Rehabilitation Project (LSRP) is part of the Global Programme Soil Protection and Rehabilitation for Food Security under the priority topic “A world without hunger” of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) strategy 2030. The core thematic strategies, "Responsibility for our planet - climate and energy", which are already available, and the core thematic strategy "Protecting our livelihoods - environment and natural resources" are also relevant

The LSRP project operates in eight districts in the Afar region, one district in Oromia and provides training and backstopping for all districts in Somali region

Jointly with its regional and local government partners, the project has developed the Dry Valley Rehabilitation and Productive Use (DVRPU) approach:

Objective: LSRP contributes to sustainable soil protection and soil rehabilitation, broadly implemented in the Ethiopian lowlands.

Contract duration: 30.06.2025

Responsibilities

  • Capacity development for staff, partners and other actors in participatory community planning
  • Organization and moderation of participatory community planning
  • Based on the operational planning and in consultation with the DVRPU Team and partners planning of participatory community planning and technical trainings
  • Development or updating of standardized training modules regarding community planning
  • Moderation of trainings and participatory community planning sessions
  • Assure proper reporting of implemented trainings and workshops
  • Monitor impact of trainings
  • Collaborate with the community planning experts of the Natural Resource Management Lead Executive Office of the Ministry of Agriculture
  • Keep regular contact and exchange with regional partner bureaus in Somali, Afar and Oromia
  • The Participatory Planning Advisor performs other duties and tasks at the request of the management.

Job Requirements

Required qualifications, competencies, and experience

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Adult Education, social sciences, sociology or similar area.

Professional experience

  • More than 5 years of professional experience in participatory planning and/or rural development sector
  • 2 years practical professional experience in adult education and participatory approaches in rural development in the lowlands Ethiopia preferably Somali, Afar and/or Oromia Region
  • Practical experience with PRA-tools.
  • Experience in working with governmental structures, international organisations, NGOs and/or research institutes.

Other knowledge, additional competencies

  • High level of motivation, proactivity, self-discipline, integrity and accountability
  • Readiness to work in rural circumstances
  • Very good English and Amharic language skills
  • Somali/Afar/Oromo language skills are an advantage
  • Computer skills in software application MS-Office
