In Ethiopia, Plan has more than 25 years of experience in implementing its programme. Currently PIE mainly operates in seven geographical areas; Amhara, Oromia, SNNPR, Gambella, Benishangul Gumuz, Afar, and Addis Ababa City Administration on different projects funded by different donors including sponsorship

Plumber is responsible to handle water supply installation, maintenance, provide capacity building for local partners and reporting at grass root level.

·   Serve as main technical focal person for activities related to new pipe line installation, daily inspection of the existing water system and fix problems related to water supply interruption related to pipe line leakage in timely manner.

·   With technical support from the WASH Officer undertake regular water schemes inspection.

·  Participate in training of WASHCO and care takers in practical plumbing works

·  Organize the system care takers Install valves and fittings at pressure line, distribution systems, tap stands, and water storage tanks in water supply system.

·  Prepare detail specification including item description, and quantity of pipes, fittings necessary to install in the water supply systems based on the data collected during new construction and maintenance records.

· Identify & ensure the procurement of plumbing tools required towards operation & maintenance of the water supply systems;

·  Keep records of used/installed pipes, fittings, and other materials and report to the WASH officer.

·  Organize and deliver trainings on plumbing, and installation of fittings on the water schemes and pipe lines

·  Provide the necessary technical support to woreda office technicians in operation and maintenance of pipe system in the water supply schemes;

·   Prepare monthly progress reports and keep the supervisor informed of the installed pipes, fittings, and maintained water systems

·   Ensure the pipes are properly laid and covered with soil as per the needed covering thickness.

·  Ensure that the pipes are anchored on the hard solid ground surface, and gorges with proper alignment and level where needed.

·   Ensure that the construction of valve chambers for valves and branches (isolating valves, globe valves, water meters, and branches at ground level) are reliable for maintenance working space.                  

Related to capacity building support

Provide technical assistance and build the capacities of local level partners, community level care takers and WASHCO in water system installation.

Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Child Protection (CPP) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) are fully embedded in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring staff and associates are aware of and understand their responsibilities under these policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), their relevance to their area of work, and that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.

Internally: The job holder has a close working relationship internally with the following departments and/or functions:

Field teams (all officers); PA team

Externally: The job holder has a close working relationship externally with the following departments and/or functions:

Program beneficiaries, woreda water Office, health office and woreda education offices and. NGOs operating in PA.

Level of contact with children      

• High level of interaction with children

Physical Environment

• The incumbent will spend much of his/her time in field office and targeted districts where the travel requirement is frequent.

Job Requirements

·   Diploma, or Certificate in Plumbing work from technical and Vocational school with 3 years of work experience for High school/TVET certificate and 2 years work experience for TVET diploma holders in plumbing or rural water supply construction or water supply construction and maintenance or related field.

·   Experienced plumber work on the water system pipe and fittings installation in refugee, rural or town water supply project with stated work experience is preferable.

·  NGO experience is plus

·  Experience in Water supply facilities system installation in a complex and demanding workload.

·   Ability and willingness to travel and work in rural areas where the project is implemented, within approved security frameworks.

·   Strong interpersonal skills, communication, presentation and facilitation skills and an ability to train woreda technicians, WASHCOS, and Care takers.

Knowledge:

Good knowledge of the area and local custom

Basic computer skill (optional)

Languages required:

·  Basic Amharic/ English spoken and writing /optional/, Local language will an asset
