Background

The Centre for Innovative Drug Development and Therapeutic Trials for Africa (CDT-Africa) is a World Bank supported Africa centre of excellence for higher education and research at the College of Health Sciences, Addis Ababa University, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Centre aims to improve access to health care through novel medical discoveries (medicines, vaccines, diagnostics, care delivery mechanisms) supported by clinical trials.

Health system strengthening in sub-Saharan Africa (ASSET) is a research project within the CDT-Africa, Addis Ababa University. The overall aim of ASSET is to develop, implement and evaluate effective health system strengthening interventions to support the translation of clinical evidence into delivery of integrated continuing care at scale across healthcare platforms.

The successful applicant will join the ASSET research project.

Fellowship details:

Number of positions: one

Scope: The post-doctoral fellowship will specifically be focused on development, co-ordination and evaluation of health system strengthening interventions in a rural district setting. The fellow will be involved in designing a study and write-up of the findings. The fellow will also be expected to apply for new grants to support their future career. An excellent level of written and spoken English is expected.

Employment term: 12 months

Job Requirements

Qualification:

  • PhD in public health of other health or social sciences related fields of study from a reputable university.
  • At least two publications in a reputable journal with the fellow as first author.
  • Experience with intervention co-ordination and delivery in a rural Ethiopian setting is essential.
  • Experience with mixed qualitative and quantitative methods is essential.
  • Experience in field research is essential.
  • Two references; at least one of the references should be from the most recent employer. A CV (maximum of 3 pages) should be submitted when the application is made.

Required Skill and Competencies: 

  • Ability to communicate well with all project staff and study participants, good organization and co-ordination skills, initiative and commitment.
