The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI is a biomedical research institute that works in developing tools for prevention, control and treatment of mycobacterium and other diseases of public healthy importance through applied and basic biomedical research and training.

AHRI would like to hire qualified candidate in the position of Postdoctoral under Bacterial & Viral Diseases Directorate.

Duties and Responsibilities

·         Advancing research bacteriology research

·         Conduct research on bacterial pathogenesis and related virulence factors

·         Demonstrates innovative design, development and execution of research projects through literature review and scientific teamwork.

·         Contributes to the execution of design, optimization, verification, troubleshooting and validation of current and new assays and provides input into the design, direction, implementation and interpretation of experimental studies

·         Conduct research on the structure, function, ecology, biotechnology and genetics of bacteria

·         Isolate suspected active bacterial organisms using classical and advanced methods

·         Conduct research on bacterial  pathogenesis and related virulence factors

·         Conduct research on understanding mechanisms of antibiotics resistance

·         Employ biotechnology or collaborate with biotechnologist in using cells for researching treatment of bacterial diseases

Education, Experience & Publication Point:

-       MSc in Microbiology And 9 years of experience And 16 publication points OR

-       PhD in Microbiology And 6 years of experience And 16 publication points

-       An ability to Identify bacteria and Recognize Significant Discoveries

Specialized Skills

-       Conventional and automated culture for aerobic and anaerobic bacteria

-       Maintain and purify bacteria, phage stocks, cell culture

-       Prepare and assay bacteriophage lysates

-       Basic immunological and molecular biology tests (ELISA, DNA and RNA purification, PCR, qPCR and Plasmid amplification) and procedures to detect, identify and characterize bacteria
