About TWA

The Well in Action (TWA) is an Ethiopian Resident Charity Organization. TWA has been working in the country for more than 14 years to contribute to sustainable improvement of living conditions for smallholder farmers and deprived households. Towards achieving this sustainable change, TWA implements holistic and integrated interventions in the sectors of agriculture, livelihoods, WASH, education, youth employment and women economic strengthening, and emergency response.

Position Summary

The Project Accountant contributes to the attainment of TWA project objectives through efficient and effective management of the project finance. The Project Accountant will be accountable to TWA Senior Finance Officer and will closely work with Project Manager. The successful candidate will be a member of the Finance & Administration team.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Specific Tasks of the Accountant are (but not limited to):

  • Be responsible for the day-to-day recording of financial transactions of projects;
  • Plan, implement, monitor, and report on project financial management;
  • Ensure all back-donor financial guidelines and requirements are respected by implementing partners;
  • Identify capacity constraints of partners for effective implementation & reporting on financial aspects of the project and initiate relevant capacity building interventions in collaboration with the Senior Finance Officer;
  • Maintain close working relationships with partner finance staffs;
  • Be responsible for the timely data entry & compilations, financial reporting and documentations of the project financial transactions;
  • Compile monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, and annual financial reports of the project finance in accordance with the donor’s contract agreement;
  • Ensure the project (TWA’s & Implementing partner’s) cash flows, bank account balances, petty cash balances, etc. are properly registered, monitored, replenished, and reported;
  • Ensure all financial and asset documents, checks, voucher pads, payroll books, electronic filing systems are prepared and ready to use;
  • Prepare and implement fixed asset and goods received registry and disposition systems of the project in collaboration with the Administration & Finance Team;
  • Ensure the project financial statements and relevant documents are compiled & audited on time;
  • Support partners to establish and prepare standard and proper accounting system including appropriate format in compliance with TWA and the donor procurement and financial regulations;
  • Responsible for other assigned accounting responsibilities in accordance with the financial administration guidelines of TWA and the back-donor.

Employment term: 1 year, with possible extension

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance from a recognized university;
  • At least three years’ work experience in an NGO;
  • Good interpersonal skill and teamwork;
  • Proficient in using computer-based accounting software packages, as well as in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook;
  • Previous training in IPSAS is highly preferred;
  • Proven work ethic;
  • Good attention to detail;
  • Good written and spoken English, Amharic and Afaan Oromoo languages
