Description

The Ethiopian Academy of Sciences(EAS) is a non-governmental and not-for-profit organization established by an Act of Parliament (Proclamation No. 783/2013) as an independent body. It provides evidence-based advice to policy makers and other stakeholders, conducts consensus studies, promotes excellence in research, offers capacity-building training, organizes public dialogues, disseminates pertinent scientific, cultural, historical and educational information, and encourages innovations in the sciences and technology. The Academy has experience managing different International and National project funds, which are tapped automatically. Currently, the academy plans to implement a support program project for transforming the Ethiopian Universities of Applied Sciences. Therefore, the Academy is seeking an applicant for Project officer position particularly for this program.

The project:

According to the differentiation document of Ethiopian Ministry of Education (MoE), 15 higher education institutions are categorized as applied science universities (UAS). The project is expected to contribute to the transformation process of these universities. EAS will conduct  three series of capacity building training packages in the selected UAS to transform them into the level of the University of Applied Sciences. Also, organize a common platform for the industry sector and UASs.

Your Tasks / Responsibilities

  • Coordinate activities, resources, equipment, and information according to the approved project description.
  • Make sure project objectives are met as the project evolves.
  • Manage, control and coordinate project schedule & implementation to make sure the project to be completed on time.
  • Monitor, track project’s progress, and create project status report for both Sustainable Education and Training Program (STEP-UAS) and EAS.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation for due diligence and financials.
  • Use project management tools to monitor working hours, budget, plans and money spend.
  • Be the main contact person for all communication with the relevant stakeholders (MoE and  STEP-UAS team) and cooperate and coordinate activities with the relevant structures of Sustainable Education and Training Program (STEP-UAS) project through out the project lifecycle.
  • Conceptualize, prepare and assure quality training conducted by short-term experts. Lead in the identification of national experts.
  • Support the functioning of administration and finance, procurement and office management in compliance with organizational procedures, STEP-UAS and the law of the country.

Assignment Period: 24 months

Job Requirements and Qualification / Skills

  • Relevant MA/MSc in management studies, project management, economics or other related fields.
  • 5+ years’ experience working as project coordinator/manager.
  • Outstanding writing and reporting skills in English
  • Good presentation skills
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Working knowledge of project management tools.
  • Good knowledge of Ethiopian higher education institutions system.
  • Good working knowledge of ICT/IT- communication technologies and MS Office (MS Excel and MS Outlook, in particular).
