Description

Environmentalists Development Association – Ethiopia (EDA-E) is a non-for-profit indigenous NGO engaged in the implementation of development activities like ecosystem protection/natural resources management, promotion of renewable energies, potable water supply, undertaking WASH programme and participating in humanitarian responses, etc.

EDAE is intending to implement the project “Deeply Rooted in the Future: Reforestation Supports Environmental Recovery and Income Generation in Dirre Inchini”. It will be located in Oromia Region, West Showa Zone, Dirre Inchini Woreda, an area with very limited amenities. The project needs to employ and station on site a project manager for the period of one year with a possibility of extension.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the overall management and implementation of the development project run by the Organization in a certain area;
  • Provide leadership in project set-ups/initiation, including development and adoption of precise implementation tools/strategies;
  • Provide managerial and technical leadership during project implementation;
  • Work with the project staff and partners to ensure project activities are implemented in a sustainable way and achieving the envisaged change;
  • Provide regular technical support and supervision during implementation;
  • Support project reviews - drawing key recommendations, lessons, best practices, technical advances, etc.
  • Work closely with EDA-E management and Programme Director to keep the project in the right course and enable it to deliver the anticipated result of a minimum quality standard;
  • Facilitate and provide capacity building support and training, coaching and skills development for the project team based at field level;
  • Participate in the selection of project staff for qualification measures of the project;
  • Trigger payments to project partners and contractors;
  • Undertake financial forecast, monitoring and controlling of the project;
  • Ensure compliance todonor visibility and programme management in a timely manner;
  • Ensure the management of project Human Resources in accordance with EDA-E’s Human Resource Manual;
  • Coordinate and ensure the concerted effort of the project staff is geared towards delivering the desired project outputs;
  • Jointly work with the Administration & Finance Department to generate/update the annual project procurement plan, secure approval and ensure the implementation of the plan;
  • Work with the Administration & Finance Department on project budget planning, budget monitoring/controls, risk mapping, reporting, audits (internal & external) and related financial accounting;
  • Ensure that the project is implemented, monitored and evaluated and effectively handed over to the relevant government sectors and respective communities on completion;
  • Collaborate with signatory sector offices to conduct ongoing monitoring and performance review of the project underway;
  • Compile and submit monthly, quarterly annual activity and financial progress reports to the country office using a standard reporting template that includes narrative;
  • Review progress through project field visits, data analysis, project budget utilization status and forward planning; and
  • Perform other relevant duties as may be requested by the Organization.

Job Requirements

Education

  • BSc/BA or MSc/MA in relevant field study from a recognized university

Experience:

  •  A minimum of 7-years for BSc/BA Degree and a minimum of 5-years for MSc/MA Degree work experience in the specific project related field

Skills: -

  • Practical team management ability;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Excellent technical report writing skills;
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English, Amharic and Afan Oromo; and
  • Driving license
