Purpose of the position:

The responsibility of the Public Health Coordinator is to monitor BHA Emergency Health Response project in Yirgachefe, Kochere and Gedeb (Gedeo Zone) in SNNPR and in Kercha and Bulehora woredas (West Guji Zone) in Oromia:. S/he will participate in Multisector and Multi agency team to carry out rapid assessment and initiate emergency response plan to respond to the acute needs of crises affected community. S/he will be responsible for the implementation and monitoring of public health activities under communication of the project manager. The position holder will support the project team to provide quality life-saving emergency response operation whenever there is a demand. S/he will coordinate supply chain management of emergency medical kits, starting from receiving from SWAN-Central warehouse to distribution to end user (health facilities). The position holder will supervise the medical stock status of health facilities in areas where under health emergency situation. S/he also prepare capacity building training to healthcare providers at public health facilities. S/he will represent World Vision Ethiopia for health at regional, zonal, and woreda health cluster coordination meetings. S/he will work closely with the Pharmacy logistics officer, health and nutrition coordinators and reports to the Health and Nutrition Grant Project Manager in Addis Ababa. The position holder will frequently travel to the project sites to monitor public health activities. S/he will be based in Kochere.

Major Responsibilities:

·         Participate in sub national health cluster, work closely with government health offices, visit health facilities and identify existing health emergency gap. Following, prepare qualitative and quantitative data and initiate response plan.
·         Identify the pharmaceutical stock status of health facilities in crises affected areas and propose the quantity and types of medical kits; Receive medical kits from SWAN/WHO central warehouse and distribute to health facilities; follow the rational use of those medical kits.
·         Prepare project concept note and participate in grant project proposal writing based a multisector assessment findings
·         Provide capacity building training to healthcare providers at public health facilities on cholera and epidemics prone diseases
·         Organize emergency health workers team that will be deployed subsequent to future demands and lead the team towards the implementation of emergency response plan designed based on existing scenario.
·         Provide technical assistances for woredas and health facilities and coordinate with PHEM team at woreda level.
·         Support at triage, identifying suspected cases with cholera related sign and symptom, surveillance, sensitization, support specimen taking, and case management

 

Job Requirements

·          Master of public Health degree in Public Health, Nursing and related fields.

·         Previous work experience at least 3 years in the management and development of epidemiological surveillance, prevention, treatment, or care response program

 

Working Environment / Conditions

The position requires frequent travel to health facilities in five woredas (Yirgachefe, Gedeb, Kochere, Bulehora, and Kerche woredas)
