About EWLA:

The Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association (EWLA) is a not-for-profit Civil Society Organization (CSO) founded by Ethiopian women lawyers. It began its work in 1996 after being registered in 1995. It was re-registered as a charitable organization by the Charities and Societies Agency in 2010 as per the Charities and Societies Proclamation. Its vision is to see a country where women are equal to men. It also has the mission of promoting the economic, political, social, and legal rights of women and, to that end, assisting them to secure full protection of their rights under the Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and other international human rights conventions. Since its establishment, EWLA has been working to achieve this vision and mission. EWLA has eight branch offices in Adama (Oromia Regional State), Bahir Dar (Amhara Regional State), Hawassa (SNNPRS), Asossa (Benishangul Gumuz Regional State), Gambella (Gambella Regional State), Dire Dawa City Administration, Jigjiga (Somali Regional State) and Semera (Afar Regional State). The Association has 54 volunteer committees that work at the zonal and woreda levels. The core program areas of EWLA include: Free Legal Aid Service, Public Education and Capacity Building, Research and Advocacy.

Job Summary:

The Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association would like to recruit Public Relations (PR) officer. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement PR strategies
  • Write and edit in-house written materials (such as; articles, case stories, speeches, Press Releases, Bi-annual and Annual reports)
  • Prepare and supervise the production of publicity brochures, leaflets, promotional materials (Posters, Stickers, Banners, signing boards and billboards)
  • Monitor media related activities under implementing projects
  • Build strong Internal and External communication, relationships and networks with head office and regional branch offices colleagues, Members, Volunteers, Partners, Stockholders, Media and Publics
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Such as; program and management team) and participate on project proposals development and resource mobilization
  • Organize events (such as; Press Conferences, GA meetings, Campagnas, exhibitions, demonstrations. etc)
  • Collate and analyses media coverages
  • Capture Photo and Video files
  • Manage and update information on the Association’s Website and Social media platforms
  • Prepare and submit PR reports
  • Manage the PR aspect of a potential crisis situation

Location/Place of work: Addis Ababa, Head Office of Ethiopian Woman Lawyers Association located at Kirkos Sub-city, around African Union (AU)

Job Requirements

Required criteria (Qualifications/Experiences/Skills):

  •  Applicants are expected to fulfill the next criteria:
  • Professional with BA/MA Degree in PR, Journalism and Communication, English and creative writing and related field (social science)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience for MA and Minimum 4 years of experience for BA
  • Work experience in PR officer at CSOs and International organizations is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills of Amharic and English both orally and writing
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (for Internal and External communication needs)
  • Good IT skills and understanding of Graphic design (such as Illustration and Photoshop)
  • Must demonstrate strong interest, passion and commitment to work with women rights organization, handle multiple tasks and ability to work under pressure
  • Strong interpersonal communication, teamwork, partnering, and consensus-building skills
  • Qualified female applicants are encouraged for the position
