Greek Community School is one of the leading schools in Addis Ababa that has served the community for more than a century. We are seeking experienced candidates to fill the following positions.

Job Summary

The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing the financial resources of the charity. Handle issuing checks, approval checks, and expenses and purchases in discussion with the General Manager.

Key Responsibilities and KPIs

  • Oversees the proper functioning of Charity’s accounting procedures.
  • Reviews project financial activities against financial plan, prepares transfer request form, collects fund transfer request from Program Department, and ensures timely transfer letter authorization and delivery to the Bank.
  • Provides advice and guides the General Manager over different issues of financial management
  • Develops and controls the organization’s annual operating budget to ensure that all financial targets are met and financial and statutory regulations are complied with
  • Oversees the preparation of the organization’s financial accounts to ensure that these are presented accurately and on time.
  • Develops and implements an internal audit program to ensure that the charity complies with financial procedures and regulations.
  • Oversees and supervises proper and centralized procurement procedures are followed.
  • Monitors external contracts and services provided by donors to ensure that these are operating effectively and provide the best value to the Charity.
  •  Delivers periodic performance reports to the GM.
  •  Reports year-end financial statements such as Balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statement.
  • Carries out all necessary actions to ensure that charity meets its financial and legal obligations.
  • Post and process journal entries to ensure all transactions are recorded.
    Update accounts receivable and issue invoices.
  •  Update accounts payable and perform reconciliations.
  •  Assist in the processing of balance sheets, income statements, and other financial statements according to legal and company accounting and financial guidelines.
  • Assist with reviewing expenses, payroll records etc. as assigned.
  • Update financial data in databases to ensure that information will be accurate and immediately available when needed.
  • Prepare and submit weekly/monthly reports.
  • Carries out any other support duties as directed by his/her supervisor.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • MA/MSC/MBA degree or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related fields and
  • Certified skill in IFRS.

Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years of proven work experience in financial management, preferably in charitable organizations.
  • Proven experience in analyzing and interpreting financial data and information for decision-making.
  • Experience in using one or more accounting packages.
