Purpose of the position

Under the supervision and control of the Technic head, the Senior Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing wiring, electrical fixtures, fuse boxes and other elements of the power supply system using hand tools; installing, services and repairs electronic equipment such as television sets, video studio equipment, intercom systems and electronic control systems; reading circuit diagrams & blueprints to determine locations of equipment and conformance to building and safety codes; measuring, cutting and installing conduit in specified panels using hand tools;

Duties and Responsibilities

1.        Reads circuit diagrams & blueprints to determine locations of equipment and conformance to building and safety codes;

2.        Measures, cuts and installs conduit in specified panels using hand tools;

3.        Measures for location of receptacles with tape measure and installs receptacles;

4.        Ensures the connection of wires according to diagrams to install fixtures such as switches, light fixtures and fuse boxes;

5.        Monitors and tests continuity of circuits to ensure safety & smooth workflow using ohmmeter;

6.        Diagnoses, locates and repairs electrical faults of the power supply system, electrical appliances and electronic equipment;

7.        Carries out scheduled maintenance and repair activities using oscilloscope, voltmeter, ohmmeter, vector scopes, waveform monitors and other relevant instruments;

8.        Determines and orders parts required to repair defective equipment;

9.        Adapts existing electronic equipment to specialized needs;

10.     Adjusts equipment for most effective operation;

11.     Keeps records of work accomplished including creation and maintenance of systems documentation;

12.     Advises and supports entry level workers on electrical system installation and maintenance procedures;

13.     Inspects & tests work during progress and upon completion to ensure that deficiencies are corrected in accordance with the required level of workmanship;

14.     Adjusts, repairs and replaces electrical components, machinery and other equipment when found faulty & defective; electrically tests reassembled machinery and/or equipment and makes necessary readjustments until it fits to perfection;

15.     Undertakes diagnostic inspection of faulty machinery and/or  equipment to identify defects and takes proper measures accordingly;

16.     Performs other job related duties as required by the immediate supervisor.

Education, Training and Experience

University/College/TVET (10+3)  or diploma and above in Electrical/ Electronic Electro-mechanical Engineering and 4 years related work experience
