Description

Under the supervision of the Protection Coordinator, the Senior Protection Officer will take lead on day-to-day activities; work across various departments, collaborate with the other Sector Specialists to oversee GBV Psychosocial Support and counseling activities.

Accountabilities:

  • Conduct sector needs assessments, provide technical guidance on appropriate emergency activities and devise sector-specific response strategies focusing on community engagement in prevention activities, and Case Management and Psychosocial support.
  • Assess community infrastructure and service-provider capabilities, identify support needs and gaps.
  • Develop partnerships with local service providers, implementing partners, and local government entities as well as attend protection cluster meetings.
  • Work with operation staff to ensure commodities are procured, handled and managed properly.
  • Work with technical and management coordinators of FHI 360’s Crisis Response team in identifying needs; target locations, supply chain routes, actors and mechanisms to ensure time-critical assistance is delivered to affected people.
  • Lead design in indicators for assessing progress with Protection and Case Management programs.
  • Serves as organizational liaison to external organizations at coordination meetings and conference as assigned.
  • Manage and mentor Protection Assistants, Protection Officer and Social Service Workers
  • Oversees all aspects of Protection at assigned field sites.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Applied Knowledge & Skills:

    • Moderate knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures by providing technical support for research studies.
    • Development of scope of work and deliverables for partners, consultants, etc.
    • Proficiency with database management software and on-line search tools required.
    • Has sensitivity to cultural diversity and understanding of the political, contextual, and ethical issues in assigned areas.
    • Articulate, professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff.
    • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.
    • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
    • Demonstrated proficiency with using Microsoft Office Suite required.
    • Ability to analyze and interpret data, identify errors, and prepare reports.
    • Ability to solve problems and implement corrective action as needed.

      • Works on problems of moderate to complex scope that require review of various factors.
      • Exercises good judgment with selecting methods and techniques to determine appropriate action.
      • Decisions may cause delays and affect a work unit or area within a department.
      • Identifies and raises issues to senior technical staff

      • Decision may cause delays or failure to achieve results that impact departmental goals.

        Supervision Given/Received:

        • Has supervisory responsibility.
        • Receives methods and procedures on new projects and assignments.
        • May provide guidance to other lower-level staff.
        • Typically reports to Protection Coordinator.

          Education:

          • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Humanitarian Studies, Social Works, Gender Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, Law, Public Administration, Political Sciences or related discipline
          • Master’s degree is highly preferred.

            Experience:

            • 5-7 years working experience in GBV Protection and Counselling or Gender integration at the national or international level.
            • Experience in dealing with issues of women's rights and Gender Equality within public institutions and/or international organizations required.
            • Solid understanding and working experience of safeguarding and accountability.
            • Fluent in local language and excellent in English

              Typical Physical Demands:

              • Typical office environment.
              • Ability to spend long hours looking at a computer screen and doing repetitive work on a keyboard.
              • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
              • Ability to lift 5 - 25 lbs.

                • Personal Computer, Microsoft Office 365 (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail), office telephone, cell phone and printer/copier.
