Background

The Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) - Ethiopia is looking for a competent IT professional to fill the vacant position of System Developer. EDC is a Quasi- government institution established by the ministry of Urban Development and Housing and the Federal Urban Job Creation and Food Security Agency, in partnership with the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) Ethiopia, in February 2013. The program fosters the emergence of a robust and competitive private sector focusing on micro, small, and medium enterprises. Headquartered in Addis Ababa, it has regional offices in Oromia (Bishoftu), Amhara (Bahir Dar), SNNPRS (Hawassa), and Tigray (Mekelle).

 Scope of Work

Under the direct supervision of the CEO/Program Managers of the Center, the successful candidate will be fully responsible for full-stack software design, development, testing and implementation tasks including MIS, Mobile and web-based systems, e-learning system development, and any other system analysis and development that will be relevant to support the work of the Center.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Take the lead in the innovation and creation of new software and programs and technology supported tools that meets and exceeds the needs of the Center
• Carefully tests and monitors all software programs are functional before formal launch
• Develop bug fixes to timely address functional or technical errors
• Ensure software programs are properly tested and business deadlines are met
• Create regular updates with latest features to address clients/Center’s concerns
• Test and monitor the quality and performance of software programs to ensure strong functionality and reliability
• Recommend improvements and/or upgrades for existing software programs as necessary
• Deploy programs and evaluate user feedbacks on a regular basis and actively seek ways to improve software processes and interactions
• Ensure system security by developing programs to actively monitor the sharing of Center’s private information
• Collaborate and clearly communicate with CEO/Program Managers within the Center to determine best practices of software programs in line with Center’s goals and meet the required quality and performance standards
• Support in coaching and training of clients to ensure they are confident in the use of software applications
• Continually maintain and update the organization’s website to meet international standards.
• In collaboration with other departments managing the organization’s social media outlets.
• Coordinate and manage ICT infrastructures of the organization such as networking systems, PBX, data center etc.
• Offer excellent IT support to clients as well as EDC staff as needed

Education

• BSc degree in Computer Science/Computer/Software Engineering or relevant field

Experience

• At least 5 years proven work experience as a Software Engineer or Software Developer
• Experience in developing and implementing applications utilizing various coding languages
• Ability to develop software in Java, Ruby on Rails, C++ or other programming languages
• Excellent knowledge of relational databases, SQL and ORM technologies (JPA2, Hibernate)
• Proficiency in software engineering tools
• Ability to document requirements and specifications
