Background

Consortium of Ethiopian Human Rights Organizations (CEHRO) is a local CSO established to serve as a platform to advance human rights and democracy in Ethiopia. It was registered on the 16th of March 2018 (re-registered as per 1113/2019 with registration number 3932). Currently, CEHRO has 17 active member organizations from different regions with full membership and 3 with associate membership. From its establishment, CEHRO has been determined and working for the advancement of human rights protection in Ethiopia by creating a common platform for human rights CSOs to articulate their voices and launch well-articulated and evidence-based advocacy. CEHRO works to expand the space for human rights CSOs and continue engagement with stakeholders’ building the capacity of existing and emerging human rights organizations to ensure effective human rights and democratic governance works. In this respect, CHERO recognizes building the capacity of trial monitoring, documenting and reporting court cases and popularizing the judicial reforms to citizens play vital role to ensure public trust in the reform and maintain judicial integrity in Ethiopia.

In line with this vision, CEHRO in collaboration with USAID-Feteh (Justice) Activity Ethiopia it has developed manuals on court reporting, trial monitoring and judicial reform communication manual. The manuals will be distributed to different part Ethiopia and will serve as a guideline and point of reference for CSOs, media as well as judiciary.

Currently, CEHRO is looking for a company that can translate such manuals into four local Ethiopian languages.

Objective of the Consultancy Service

The objective of this bid is to recruit a translation house (company) that can translate three training manuals from Amharic languages into four local Ethiopian language considering the general aspect of the language’s dialect.

Scope of work

The company recruited will be contracted to translate the three training manuals (court reporting, and trial monitoring, and communicating judicial reform) from Amharic to Afan Oromo, Tigrigna, Somaligna, and Sidamgna languages.

 Duration of the work

The company recruited for this shall complete the task with one week or seven days starting from the date of signing the contract

Applicant Qualification

• Proven relevant experience relating to this type of services package.
• A firm composed of personnel who have a degree in law, Human Rights and journalism is preferable.
• Solid experience and extensive knowledge of Ethiopia’s judicial reform and good knowledge of media is advantageous.
• Relevant experience on translating manual relating to this call topic is a plus.
• Fluent (reading, writing, listening, speaking) in Amharic, Afan Oromo, Tigrigna, Somaligna, and Sidamgna languages.
